Trenchless Sewer Repair in Topeka

Honest trenchless sewer repair and pipe replacement in the Topeka area.

When you’re having sewer line problems, the last thing you want to do is wait around and let it get worse. Calling Pat Plumbing, Heating and Air right away could be the best decision you will make. Our company is fully licensed and insured and our technicians are highly skilled. In addition to this, we have the tools and know-how to correct your problem, with minimally invasive measures, if the problem allows for it.

What is Trenchless Sewer Repair?

When you imagine sewer repair, you probably think of a destroyed yard, flower beds askew, and maybe even the street being dug up. Trenchless sewer repair actually does very little of this and can be completed within a day or two. With this process, we’ll view your pipes with a camera and determine the most shallow access point.

After the pipe has been cleaned well, we will insert a new lining to cover any damaged areas and allow it to cure. Finally, we will re-examine the pipe with our cameras and turn the water back on.

How to Prevent Sewer Line Problems

The easiest way to prevent sewer line problems is by following a simple maintenance schedule. The type of maintenance performed depends on your sewage lines, but it is always recommended to have the lines inspected at least once per year. Here is what you can expect maintenance to look like on each type of sewage pipe:

  • PVC-DWV – usually white in color, this pipe is the most modern pipe used in sewers today. Solid core PVC pipe is always recommended to be used underground. Foam Core PVC pipes look like a solid core but are made out of PVC inside, and the outside is a jacket with foam sandwiched between the layers. The structural integrity of this pipe does not make it the best alternative for sewer lines. Our company only uses solid core pipe.
    • Although PVC can last for years, checking of the pipe periodically with a sewer camera is recommended. A PVC sewer line can be installed improperly. Insufficient gravel bedding, improper excavation, over-excavation when unnecessary, sewer installed on mud, improper gluing of the sewer which will lead to roots in the line. Also, connections are susceptible at the house and at the city sewer main. An accessible two way exterior clean out should always be installed for future access and maintenance to the sewer.
  • CAST IRON- cast iron is metal steel pipe that if left alone will form pipe scale and eventually deteriorate due to being metal and exposed to repeated moisture inside and outside of the sewer. Snaking or augering the line when a backup occurs and periodic sewer camera inspections of the line to check the integrity are recommended.
  • ORANGEBERG PIPE- Orangeburg pipe is a compressed tar that has the rigidity of plastic pipe when new but over time the ground moisture and internal flow of waste slowly softens and deteriorates the sewer causing the paper properties to absorb water and swell thereby ruining the sewer. Orangeburg pipe in almost all cases nowadays cannot be connected to due to the condition. Thereby, the City of Topeka mandates that the entire Orangeburg sewer must be moved from the home to the City of Topeka main sewer.
  • CLAY TILE – clay tile sewer pipe in Topeka is very common. This was used widely in the past. It is very susceptible to root intrusion. Many of the clay tile sewers we see in Topeka have a concrete, bell ended seal on the end of the sewer pipe. This concrete seal deteriorates over time and cracks develop. Tree roots sense the water vapor coming through the crack, and what starts out as a very small fiber like root intrusion, then steadily grows over time due to its unlimited water supply in the sewer. Roots continue to grow and as they get wider the crack widens thereby making the crack larger attracting new roots. As root growth is cut out from augering, cabling or snaking the roots multiply and regrow. Eventually the sewer line will be impassable and must be dug up and either repaired (if feasible) or replaced.
    • Always ask about warranties on new sewer lines. Pat Plumbing, Heating and Air offers a 20-year warranty on our full replacements with traditional excavation. We offer a lifetime warranty on replacements with our pipe bursting process which reduces the amount of excavation and damage to the yard.

This maintenance might not prevent every major clog from occurring but will certainly lessen the chance of them happening. If you are unsure of the types of pipe used, or if they are in good enough condition for maintenance, ask our technicians!
