Water Heater Replacement

Imagine this: you wake up and head to the bathroom for your morning shower. You turn the faucet on, wait a few minutes for the water to warm, and then hop in. To your surprise, the water is still icy cold! Whether you like it or not, you are now wide awake and probably a little perturbed. This is the first big sign that your water heater is not working properly and that you may need to replace it. A quick call to Pat Plumbing, Heating and Air will send a technician your way. Here are a few of the guidelines we look at when deciding whether or not you need a water heater replacement:

• AGE- nothing lasts forever and water heaters are no different. Water heaters generally last around 8-10 years
• RUST- rust will spread and corrode your tank. Corrosion will lead to leaks that need constant repair
• NOISE- a noisy water heater is likely telling you that there is sediment buildup in the bottom of the tank. Over time, this sediment will harden on the tank floor causing your heater to become inefficient and eventually leading to the bottom of the tank burning
• NOT ENOUGH HOT WATER- if you use the same amount of water as you used to, yet it seems like there is never enough, chances are the water heater is slowly dying. This is especially true if your water heater is older and requiring multiple repairs

Drain Cleaning to the Rescue

Dirty, clogged drains are an annoyance at first and later can become a major problem. A clogged drain, left alone, can slow water pressure, cause overflowing toilets, spread germs, and even cause pipes to leak or burst. It may be tempting to use a drain cleaning product or a drain snake to clear blockages, but neither of these ideas are good ones. Here are a few considerations for professional drain cleaning:

Chemical drain cleaners are dangerous to your pipes, your health, and the environment. They contain lye which is a corrosive agent and can damage pipes and cause burns to the skin, eyes, and lungs. 
Drain snakes are great–when used properly. Unfortunately, inexperienced plumbers may not actually remove the clog and can result in damage to your piping.
